Film & photography school can teach you the fundamentals. YouTube can teach you how to light a scene or use a camera. Instagram can show you where everyone else ended up.
None of them necessarily tell you how to get from where you are now to where you actually want to go.
So you end up trying to figure out a lot of this shit on your own.
And the further you get, the questions become less about cameras and more about how to actually build the career:
“How do I turn this thing I love doing into a career that actually financially supports my life?”

“How do I know what to charge, and when I'm ready to charge more?”

I've built a six figure business behind the camera, made over $1M throughout my career with a camera in my hands, and shot commercial campaigns across Canada and the U.S.
I've worked my way from small crews and shitty jobs to larger productions, international shoots, and the kind of work I used to look at and wonder how the fuck people got there.
For the last three years, I've also hosted SHOTLIST, sitting down with some of the best filmmakers and photographers in the industry and asking them how they built their careers.
I've learned a lot from building my own career. I've learned even more from getting to look inside other people's.
