Making a life and living behind the lens.
Most creatives struggle to make a full time living.
This podcast is all about helping emerging cinematographers, photographers, and directors navigate the challenges of making a life and a living behind the lens. From workflow to personal growth, creative vision to marketing, finances to production—every episode is packed with a wide range of topics to support visual storytellers in their pursuit of building a business and growing a career they are proud of.

Audience:
The audience exists of filmmakers, photographers, and directors who are somewhere between making a part time living with their craft and those already established in their career. This audience is niche but highly motivated and the fan of this podcast are true fans, listening to an episode within the first 24hrs of it’s release. This audience is 80% male and 20% female with the majority residing 60% in Canada and 20% in USA.
A word from the host:
“Why is no one talking about the journey, the struggles, and what it actually takes to become a successful creative behind the lens?
Why does this feel like a gate kept industry and you without knowing the right people you’ll never figure out how this works?
How did I learn more in one day assisting and talking with a professional photographer then I learned in an entire semester of photography school?”
These are the questions that kept commercial Cinematographer Marshal Chupa up at night wondering how he could create the very thing he wish existed 10 years ago when he started out on his freelance creative journey behind the camera. Something that could continually add value into the community and help his peers rise along side him. In hindsight, the most valuable things he had learned along his journey came from connecting with other successful creatives over coffee’s and beer’s and jotting down notes in his black moleskin.
Then came the idea.
If the most valuable insights of his career didn’t come from school and everyone on the internet seem to want to just talk about the next shiny lens then what if he bridge the gap through these very same conversations he was already having with other successful creatives but instead do it in front of a mic and share it with the world and the community.
And so the Shotlist Podcast was born.
